Figure shows humanity divided in diverse groups based upon faith, or religious tradition. In fact, the universe of sense perception is infinitely diverse. In fact, every human being is a unique individual. Not only humans, but all animate beings come with their own personality. Same is the case with the world of inanimate materiality. As human beings we wonder about the source of it all. Where did the universe with its infinite diversity come from? Who or what caused it? How are we related with each other? How should we behave with each other and with nature at large? As human beings we are deeply interested in these questions, as the answers determine how we lead our lives. Our prophets, sages, philosophers, scientists and seers have spent their lives studying the nature of humankind and its relationships in the universe. They declare that the infinte diversity in the universe is all underlain by one unseen reailty referred to as the ultimate reality in metaphysical terms, God in theological terms and energy in scientific terms. Thus there is a unity in diversity. As humans, it is natural for us to see diversity. Spiritual development challenges us to grow in wisdom to realize the unseen reality that connects us together into one reality and one planet. The purpose of spiritual education is to help us see the unseen and evolve to conduct our lives respecting the differences in the light of one underlying reality of the entire universe, animate and the inanimate. Human beings adopt different ways to see the unseen. It must be understood that seeing the unseen, invisible or the subtle is the domain of the thinking and feeling mind, not that of the senses although the senses do help in the search and its validation. The seer must develop senstivity and capacity of thought and feeling of the mind and its persistence and sharpness of uninterrupted focus on one object close to the heart of the seer to begin the search. Continued focus on the object can lead to the hidden secrets of the object. Some seek the secrets of matter, some those of plant life, some of living organisms and life, some of mind, some of themselves and some of the totality of existence. Since all objects are parts of the totality of extence, all seekers are seeking the secrets of existence and all objects can lead to the secrets of the totality of existence provided we break thriugh the confines of the one object close to our hearts with which we began the search. Once we arrive at the secrets of the totality of existence, we become aware that we share the secrets of our own existence with those of the totality. Then we see kinship with the totality and all become one in our minds and we live with that truth. |
"It is He who is revealed in every face, sought in every sign, gazed upon by every eye, worshipped in every object of worship, and pursued in the unseen and the visible. Not a single one of His creatures can fail to find Him in its primordial and original nature."
Ibn 'Arabi in Futûhât al-Makkiyya
